Running on Empty

    A Message by Courtney Lee

You wouldn't expect your car to take you down the road if the tank was empty would you? You wouldn't go a day without fueling your body with some food to give you the energy you need for daily tasks. So why do we feel that we can fight daily battles as Christians without our spiritual tank being filled? Romans 12:2 says, Do not be conformed to this world, but continuously be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God's will is—what is proper, pleasing, and perfect.

What does the renewing of the mind mean? The word renew means to give fresh life or strength to. When we are renewing our mind we are strengthening it. We are giving it fresh life by allowing our minds to be cleansed of doubts, fear, worries, false information, and all the other things we can cloud our minds with. We are allowing new fresh information and revelations of God's truth to take place in our mind as well as our heart.

How do we renew our minds?  Prayer is one way. Prayer has definitely helped me clear my mind, focus it on Jesus, and give me a sense of peace. Allowing ourselves personal time with the Lord to unburden ourselves and speak with him truly makes a difference. Jesus desires for us to communicate with him. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6

Another way to renew your mind is by reading the bible. When we make an effort to read the bible often it helps equip us with the Word of God and strengthen us when defending our Christian faith. When we read the truth we are fueling our spiritual tanks so we have these scriptures in our minds and in our hearts. Then, when the trials of life happen, we have these scriptures to comfort us and strengthen us. When we don't continually renew our minds it will make it easier to stray away into worldly actions rather than dealing with situations the way Jesus would.

I will leave you with this last scripture. Ephesians 6:10-17 is the perfect example of how reading the scriptures and communicating with Jesus gives us all the armour we need. I encourage you to make some time to pray and to read daily. Whatever time you can offer, even if it is small, will help to renew your mind and help you in your Christian walk. God bless.

Finally, receive your power from the Lord and from his mighty strength. 11 Put on all the armor that God supplies. In this way you can take a stand against the devil’s strategies. 12 This is not a wrestling match against a human opponent. We are wrestling with rulers, authorities, the powers who govern this world of darkness, and spiritual forces that control evil in the heavenly world. 13 For this reason, take up all the armor that God supplies. Then you will be able to take a stand during these evil days.[c] Once you have overcome all obstacles, you will be able to stand your ground. 14 So then, take your stand! Fasten truth around your waist like a belt. Put on God’s approval as your breastplate. 15 Put on your shoes so that you are ready to spread the Good News that gives peace. 16 In addition to all these, take the Christian faith as your shield. With it you can put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Also take salvation as your helmet and God’s word as the sword that the Spirit supplies.
